Bauer, Annette
annette bauer
Annette Bauer is a recorder player and multi-instrumentalist equally at home in early music styles as well as musical traditions from around the world. Born and raised in Germany, she holds a diploma in medieval and Renaissance music from the Schola Cantorum in Basel, Switzerland, and an M.A. degree in music from the University of California in Santa Cruz. From 2001-2012 she called the San Francisco Bay area her home, where she studied classical North Indian music at the Ali Akbar College of Music, and performed with early music ensembles all over the US. From 2012-2020 she toured the world as a musician for Cirque du Soleil’s show TOTEM. Annette now lives in Montréal with her family. In addition to collaborative projects with Montreal-based ensembles (Ensemble Scholastica, Juulie Rousseau, Danse Cadence, and others), she performs with her duo Carnets des Soie, with a program inspired by the historical Silk Roads. She is sharing her love of early notation via an ongoing online class on notation of the 14th-16th centuries. Annette has served as faculty on many summer workshops (Amherst, Texas Toot, Mountain Collegium, SFEMS, CAMMAC), and is currently the musical director of the SFEMS Recorder Workshop, and of the North American Virtual Recorder Society (NAVRS).
