In collaboration with the Philadelphia Bach Collective

Bach's St. John Passion

Compact & potent musical drama

A pillar of Baroque repertoire, Bach's St. John Passion offers an immediacy of emotional connection and a timeless message. Evangelist James Reese guides us through the Passion of St. John, recounting the events leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus. A tapestry of soloists offer reflections on the events in the voice of the people, those looking on feeling powerless to the events. We are excited to collaborate with the Philadelphia Bach Collective, and we look forward to performing for audiences in Philadelphia following our NYC premiere.

Meet Our Collaborators

The Philadelphia Bach Collective was created out of a desire to showcase the vast talents of Philadelphia musicians who specialize in music of the Baroque. The Philadelphia Bach Collective is a performer-led ensemble dedicated to making the music of Johann Sebastian Bach accessible and relevant for audiences. In its successful inaugural season, The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Peter Dobrin described the Collective’s work as “...the kind of thing that, had you experienced it in Paris or Berlin, would make you say you wished we had that back home.” Building on this momentum, the ensemble continues to expand its programming and partnerships.

The Philadelphia Bach Collective is committed to providing consistent access to Bach’s music while supporting its local community of early music specialists and listeners engaged with this repertoire.
