Monteverdi's Orfeo

Tenet's first-ever opera production

Tenet opens the 2026-2027 season with a fully-staged performance of Claudio Monteverdi's Orfeo, with projections by designer Camilla Tassi. Considered the earliest complete musical drama, Orfeo recounts the Orpheus myth through the libretto of Alessandro Striggio. Get to Know the Music

Claudio Monteverdi's Orfeo is considered one of the first operas, and the earliest complete musical drama. The music was revolutionary at its time, prioritizing the emotional impact of declaimed text. This Tenet performance from 2016 captures the raucous, joyful energy of the opera's finale.
