ACRONYM

ACRONYM

ACRONYM, an “outstanding young early-music string ensemble” (The New Yorker), is dedicated to giving modern premieres of the wild instrumental music of the seventeenth century. Formed in 2012, the band has released six critically acclaimed recordings—including discs devoted to composers Johann Pezel, Antonio Bertali, Giovanni Valentini, and Johann Rosenmüller—and they anticipate three new releases (the music of Samuel Capricornus, H.I.F. von Biber, and Christoph Graupner) in the 2017-2018 season. ACRONYM’s performances have been praised for their “consummate style, grace, and unity of spirit” (The New York Times), and recent and upcoming engagements include the National Cathedral (DC), Music Before 1800 (NYC), Academy of Early Music (Ann Arbor), Tropical Baroque Festival (Miami), Cathedral Concerts (Richmond), Electric Earth (Jaffrey, NH), and the Mawahie Performing Arts Center (Great Barrington, MA), as well as academic residencies throughout the country.  www.acronymensemble.com
