JEFFREY GROSSMAN

Keyboardist and conductor Jeffrey Grossman specializes in vital, engaging performances of music of the past, through processes that are intensely collaborative and historically informed. As the artistic director of the acclaimed baroque ensemble the Sebastians, this season Jeffrey directs concerts including Bach’s St. Matthew Passion and Handel’s Messiah from the organ and harpsichord, both in collaboration with TENET Vocal Artists. In recent seasons, Jeffrey has performed with TENET, the Green Mountain Project, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Quodlibet, the Boston Early Music Festival, and numerous other ensembles across the country. Jeffrey can be heard on the Avie, Gothic, Naxos, Albany, Soundspells, Métier, and MSR Classics record labels. A native of Detroit, Michigan, he holds degrees from Harvard College, the Juilliard School, and Carnegie Mellon University.

 

Beth Beauchamp

Having worked as a professional musician, a music-educator, and the Executive Director of a number of non-profit arts organizations, Beth has over 10 years of experience in catering to the unique needs of artists. Beth believes that the talent, education, and skill-sets of her clients have inherent worth. As a passionate artist advocate, she aims to help her artists improve the quality of their own lives by encouraging them to honor the value of their own work, and by creating materials which allow them to champion their art with confidence. Equally interested in building community, Beth aims to create a roster of artists who are excited to support and collaborate together.

DANIEL LEE

Award-winning violinist Daniel S. Lee enjoys a varied career as a soloist, leader, collaborator, and educator. Praised for his “ravishing vehemence” and “soulful performance” (New York Times), he has appeared as a soloist and leader with Early Music New York, Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Quodlibet Ensemble, and Yale Schola Cantorum, among others. As the core violinist of the Sebastians, the critically-acclaimed period ensemble that he founded and co-directs, he won the Audience Prize at the 2012 Early Music America Baroque Performance Competition, and was a finalist of the 2011 York Early Music International Competition. A piccolo violin specialist, he has performed as a soloist in Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 1 and Cantata 140, and has given the modern-day premiere of his own transcription of Johann Pfeiffer’s concerto. He has studied at the Juilliard School (B.M.), Yale School of Music (M.M. and Art.Dip.), and University of Connecticut (D.M.A), and has given lectures and masterclasses at Connecticut College, Manhattan School of Music, Purchase College (SUNY), University of Kansas, and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. EZRA SELTZER
Cello

EZRA SELTZER

Lauded for his “beauty of tone and keenness of musicianship” (Opera Britannia), cellist Ezra Seltzer has performed as guest principal cellist of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Musica Angelica, Orchester Wiener Akademie, and the Trinity Wall Street Baroque Orchestra. He has also appeared as a soloist and principal cellist at the Boulder Bach Festival, and is the associate principal cellist at the Carmel Bach Festival. In New York, he regularly performs chamber music at Helicon Foundation Symposia, the 4x4 Baroque Music Festival, and at Music Before 1800, and is a co-founder and principal cellist of the Sebastians. This season he will also appear with the Portland Baroque Orchestra, Chicago's Baroque Band, and New York Baroque Incorporated.

CHARLES WEAVER

CHARLES WEAVER

 

Charles Weaver is on the faculty of the Juilliard School, where he teaches Historically Informed Performance on Plucked Instruments. He was music director for Cavalli’s La Calisto with New York's Dell'Arte Opera in summer 2017, when The Observer remarked on "the superb baroque band led by Charles Weaver...it was amazing to hear what warm and varied sounds he coaxed from the ensemble." He has served as assistant conductor for Juilliard Opera, and accompanied operas with the Yale Baroque Opera Project and the Boston Early Music Festival. Chamber music appearances include Quicksilver, Piffaro, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Folger Consort, Apollo's Fire, Blue Heron, and Musica Pacifica. He also works with the New York Continuo Collective, an ensemble of players and singers exploring seventeenth-century vocal music in semester-length workshop productions. He has taught at the Lute Society of America Summer Workshop and the Madison Early Music Festival. This Summer he will join the faculty of the International Baroque Institute at Longy. He is associate director of music at St. Mary's Church in Norwalk, Connecticut, where he specializes in Renaissance polyphony and Gregorian chant.
