Claudio Monteverdi's Madrigals of War and Love

  • Society for Ethical Culture 2 West 64th St New York, NY 10023 (map)

Special guest Paul O’Dette will direct TENET in a concert of music from Claudio Monteverdi’s  “Madrigals of War and Love” (Madrigali Guerreri ed Amorosi).  Published in 1638, this collection represents 30 years of Monteverdi’s work in the new stile concitato (“agitated style”), which is on full display.  These works intimately connect the poetry of Petrarch, Tasso, Guarini, Rinuccini and others to the music through dramatic musical interpretations. We have gathered star-filled international cast that includes regular members of TENET’s Green Mountain Project, cornettist Doron David Sherwin, baroque harpist Maria Christina Cleary, gambist Erin Headley and violinist Robert Mealy.
