Les Plaisirs de Versailles was created as a divertissement (short opera) for King Lous XIV at this court.
The silly story begins with Music being interrupted by Conversation’s babbling. Characters step in to try and appease the two ladies in conflict and everyone agrees to settle their difference over chocolate. If only life were so easy today!
TENET performed Les Plaisirs de Versailles at the Met Museum in the Spring of 2018 to great acclaim, hence the reprise.
For this occasion, we’ll offer additional fancy French music by Ensemble Caprice to complete the program.
